The new Premier League season got underway yesterday night at Old Trafford with a 1-0 win for Manchester United over Fulham.

The Red Devils’ first-ever match saw Noussair Mazraoui starting at right back. His 92% passing rate demonstrated his brilliance.

The Moroccan superstar was victorious in all three of his ground duels and three quarters of his aerial bouts.

Not only that, he recovered five balls and won two out of two tackles. He also had three interceptions.

Although he only joined the team earlier in the week, the former Bayern Munich star had an outstanding debut.

During his four years with Ajax, the 26-year-old played for manager Erik ten Hag.

It should have come as no surprise that Mazraoui adjusted so rapidly. The inverted sprints into midfield by the £26 million-rated star were impressive.Along with Kobbie Mainoo, he was a standout performer.

When playing the Cottagers, the Red Devils were subpar at best. Given the number of scoring opportunities they had in each half, they should have scored more goals.

In the first half, Bruno Fernandes had two excellent chances to score but failed to do so. In injury time, Alejandro Garnacho missed a golden opportunity.

It was not costly in the end because Marco Silva’s team managed just two shots on goal.

It may have turned out differently had we faced a stronger opponent. In the news conference that followed the match, Ten Hag dealt with a similar issue.

On Saturday, United will play away against Brighton & Hove Albion. The action gets underway at the Amex Stadium at a leisurely pace.

The late winner against Fulham should go to Joshua Zirkzee, who deserves a starting position up front.

Along with Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt may make his professional debut. Harry Maguire was substituted for yesterday by the 25-year-old.

At Brighton, the center defender is likely to start alongside Lisandro Martinez.
