After Marc Cucurella’s pivotal contribution in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory this summer, Erling Haaland wasted no time speaking out against a chant that had gone viral. Although the Manchester City superstar was the one who started the Premier League campaign talking on the pitch at Stamford Bridge, his name is referenced in the song.
The visitors took the lead in the first half through Haaland, and they went on to win thanks to a long-range goal from Mateo Kovacic in the second half.
After receiving the ball inside the box in the 18th minute, the 24-year-old powerfully drove towards goal, dribbling past Cucurella’s pressure and neatly finishing the shot past Robert Sanchez. After the Chelsea defender fired a shot at Haaland during his jubilation for Euro 2024, fans were anxiously awaiting their clash.
Cucurella set up Mikel Oyarzabal for the game-winning goal in the last moments of Spain’s 2-1 final victory over England in Berlin in July, as the Spanish won their record-tying fourth European Championship.
On a stage in Madrid, the 26-year-old—who was named to the tournament’s team—was having a good time while the Spanish players reveled in front of their home fans.
Additionally, upon taking over the microphone, he joined in on a famous chant, which has already gone viral and is further infuriating the devastated English fans.
The lines that stand out are: “Cucurella eats paella, Cucurella drinks Estrella, Haaland trembles that Cucurella is coming.”
Haaland scored the first goal of the season after beating Cucurella, however he was later shown on camera ignoring Cucurella’s screams for help after he hurt himself in the 80th minute.
Prior to Chelsea teammates Enzo Fernandez and Pedro Neto reaching the scene to alleviate what appeared to be a cramp, the City forward strolled by his opponent.
Accusing Cucurella of asking for his shirt before insulting him with his chant, Haaland put another knife into him after full-time at Stamford Bridge.
“Cucurella is a funny man,” he told Viaplay. This summer, he writes a song about me, and last season, he begged to borrow my shirt.Haaland was overjoyed with his goal-scoring performance; it will likely be just the beginning of City’s quest for an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League crown.
“I don’t know if you remember last year, Sanchez had a great save on me because he always stays a lot on the line, that’s why I took a few extra touches,” Haaland told the broadcaster.
I was prepared for what to do when he bolted out. In my opinion, that was an admiral aim.
For the past twelve months, his saving has been a source of great annoyance for me. That is why I went the additional mile. The aim was spot on. The goal was well-crafted.
