Following their World Series victory last season, the Texas Rangers entered 2024 with high expectations. However, despite only minor changes to the roster, they are now effectively out of the postseason race with over a month still remaining in the regular season, instead of contending for another World Series appearance.
“The season has been embarrassing for us,” Young stated. “This isn’t what we anticipated. I expect our players to feel just as embarrassed as I do about our performance.”
He continued, “I want to see us fight until the end, regardless of where we end up in the standings or what our record looks like. Improvement will come naturally if we focus on playing good baseball. I know this team can do better, and I expect us to demonstrate that over these last six weeks.”
Young’s frustration with the season is evident, and he made his feelings clear in his interview. The Rangers are currently 11 games behind first place in the AL West and 12.5 games back from the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins, who are tied for the second American League Wild Card spot.
It is unusual for a member of a team’s front office to address their players so directly, which underscores the seriousness with which the Rangers view this disappointing season and highlights the high expectations they continue to uphold.
