After an astonishing 22 Premier League goals and 11 assists last season, 22-year-old Palmer was chosen the greatest young player by his fellow professionals. On Tuesday, he was presented with the PFA trophy at a ceremony held at the Manchester Opera House by blues great Gianfranco Zola.
The England attacker, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 for £42.5 million ($55 million), was a brilliant addition to an otherwise disappointing Blues season and one of the greatest signings of the year. Notable performances include netting a hat trick to rescue a come-from-behind victory against Manchester United in April and rashing Everton with four goals.
Palmer converted all nine of Chelsea’s Premier League penalty attempts last year. The only player to score more penalties in a single season is the renowned Frank Lampard of Chelsea, who converted ten in the 2009–10 campaign.
Manchester City, Palmer’s previous team, were Chelsea’s first opponent of the season, and Chelsea defeated. Even before Sunday’s match against Wolves, there has been a great deal of upheaval: Raheem Sterling has criticized the club for leaving him out of the City squad and Enzo Fernandez has been elected captain despite his role in the racist shouting that occurred after the Copa America final in Argentina.
This month marks Conor Gallagher’s second visit to Madrid as he seeks to finalize his £35.8 million transfer to Atletico Madrid, bringing an end to the transfer controversy
It appears that Conor Gallagher’s transfer from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid is about to be finalized, as he has arrived in Madrid.
The deal that Gallagher had agreed upon with the Spanish club on personal terms weeks ago is now in doubt because Chelsea abandoned their chase of Samu Omorodion, a forward for Atletico Madrid.
As doubts began to surround the transaction, the 24-year-old returned to the UK from Madrid, where he had been waiting for the deal to be finalized.
Gallagher had been practicing alone at the Blues’ Cobham training camp since returning from the Spanish city, as Diego Simeone’s side needed to raise finances to complete the transaction.
But now, the deal is reportedly back on, as Gallagher returned to Madrid on Tuesday night to finalize his departure from his childhood club, as reported by The Athletic. The reported €42 million (£35.8 million) deal, which includes an undisclosed sell-on fee, is due to be signed by the England international at the Stadio Metropolitano. The term will last for five years, until 2029.
The transfer is expected to be publicly disclosed soon, as an agreement has already been made.
