The asking price is still too expensive for Manchester United to consider loaning Manuel Ugarte from PSG with an obligation to buy.
The Uruguayan international is worth about £42 million to United, while PSG is demanding £51 million.
In the midst of the most recent transfer rumors, Ugarte did not play in PSG’s Ligue 1 season opener last Friday against Le Havre.
Currently, PSG is eager to sell Ugarte, but they are not willing to decrease their asking price from £51 million, the amount they paid Sporting to get him in July of last year.
The French giants won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France last season, and Ugarte played in 37 of those games. He began his professional club career in Portugal with Famalicao and went on to play 85 times for Sporting over a two-year stint.
At the senior international level, Ugarte has also received 22 caps.
United will only consider selling Scott McTominay, and Napoli are interested in signing him on a short-term loan. This news comes as a surprise.
If the Scot left this summer, Ugarte would be there to back him up immediately.
A £20 million offer was turned down earlier this month by Fulham. United have the option to extend McTominay’s contract for an additional year, although his current deal only has one year left on it.
The 27-year-old has been with United since April 2017 and has made more than 250 appearances since graduating from the academy.
Even though the Cottagers’ interest has resurfaced since then, they are still planning to pay £25 million to acquire Sander Berge from Burnley.
