Fenerbahce, under Jose Mourinho’s coaching, has gotten off to a respectable start in the Turkish National Championship. Their most recent road game was a 5-0 victory against Rizespor. Despite being tied with Eyupspor Club in points, Fenerbahce moved up to second place in the rankings with this win.
Fred, a midfielder, scored a hat trick for the first time in his career in this win. In the 15th minute, the Brazilian scored Fenerbahce’s first goal with a long-range shot from the right side. He then took advantage of the opponent’s goalkeeper’s frailty to score twice in as many minutes, in the 60th and 64th minutes.
The biggest margin of victory for Fenerbahce since Mourinho took over as coach was achieved thanks to the second half goals scored by veteran striker Edin Dzeko and a counter-kick by the midfielder of Rizespor. After coming off the bench in the 81st minute, Fred made light of the situation by quoting “The Special One” while the Fenerbahce faithful sang his name.
Since signing, Fenerbahce has looked upon Fred as a positive sign. At the time Fred made his debut, Fenerbahce’s losing streak in European Cup play was at two matches, one away to Olympiakos and one at home to Union Berlin.Although Fred did not play the entire 90 minutes in either of both matches, Fenerbahce were able to come back from a 3-0 deficit against Olympiakos when Fred came on as a substitute. The final score was 2-3. The score remained 0-0 when Fred was replaced in the Union Berlin match, and Fenerbahce went on to lose.
So, in matches when he has played the entire 90 minutes, Fred is yet to lose to Fenerbahce. Still, Fenerbahce fans believe that their team must bring Fred to away games near the Black Sea in order to “get fortune” because Fred appears to perform exceptionally well against teams like Rizespor and Trabzonspor.
