Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung records his younger brother, Jace Jung, hitting a single for the Detroit Tigers during their game against the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.
Josh Jung wasn’t able to be present when his younger brother, Jace Jung, recorded his first MLB hit. However, he was there to witness his eighth. On Monday evening, the Texas Rangers’ All-Star third baseman was in a suite at Guaranteed Rate Field for Jace’s game with the Detroit Tigers against the Chicago White Sox.
During the game, Jace Jung, 23, led off the second inning with a single to center field, while Josh captured the moment on his cell phone from the suite, an event that was caught on Bally Sports Detroit’s broadcast.
The Rangers had a day off on Monday in preparation for their three-game series against the White Sox starting the following day. Both the Rangers and Tigers were staying at the same downtown Chicago hotel. Josh Jung, 26, made his MLB debut in September 2022, a few months after Jace was drafted as the No. 12 overall pick by the Tigers. Josh was selected by the Rangers with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft.
The Jung brothers both played at Texas Tech after attending San Antonio MacArthur High School. Josh played for the Red Raiders from 2017-19, and Jace played from 2020-22.
Tigers broadcaster Jason Benetti mentioned that Jace Jung had said before the game he would look up at his brother in the stands if he got a hit, perhaps even a home run. “There’s a base hit for Jace Jung in front of his brother. Baseball is really poetry sometimes,” Benetti remarked. “They have a very close relationship and have always been extremely competitive.”
Jace Jung made his MLB debut on August 16 and recorded his first MLB hit the following day against the Yankees in New York.
