Ivory Coast overcame Zambia thanks in large part to Manchester United winger Amad Diallo, who made a strong return to the national squad.
In Friday’s African Cup of Nations qualifying match, Ivory Coast defeated Zambia 2-0.
The Elephants prevailed at Stade de la Paix thanks to a late double by Jean-Phillippe Krasso.
In their first match back together in 18 months, Amad was reinstated to the Ivory Coast squad as they began defending their championship at the African Cup of Nations.
Prior to his participation in the match against Zambia, the United player had received his final cap for the Ivorians in March 2023, just missing out on the opportunity to celebrate AFCON success when his country won the tournament at home.
It was expected that Amad would start against Zambia after his stellar play for his club, and he didn’t let everyone down.
Contrary to popular belief, the 22-year-old spent most of his time playing in the middle of the field, with Oumar Diakite shifted to the right wing.
Amad had 63 touches on the ball in the 70 minutes he played before being substituted by Benie Traore.
With an astounding completion percentage of 97 percent, he completed all 34 throws he tried with only one interception. He completed four crucial passes.
The forward for the Red Devils attempted eight crosses in an effort to locate his teammates. Four times he hit his mark.
Three shots were registered by Amad. Two missed their marks and one needed Tresford Lawrence Mulenga to react quickly.
He blew a golden opportunity.
Amad wants to work on his dribbling skills in preparation for Ivory Coast’s upcoming match. He started six separate dribbles but couldn’t finish any of them.
The United number sixteen only came out on top twice in ten ground duels. In addition to making one interception, he drew two targets.
“Sofascore” provided the statistics.
