At Lisbon’s Estádio da Luz, Portugal rallied from a goal down to defeat Scotland 2-1, thanks to an equalizer scored by Bruno Fernandes, captain of Manchester United.

Just seven minutes into Portugal’s second Nations League group match, they were behind thanks to a spectacular cross from ex-United player Scott McTominay.

In their pursuit of parity, Portugal upped their game, but the Tartan Army’s resolute defense generally prevented them.

Fernandes had a stroke of genius nine minutes after halftime, putting the ball first time from outside the area into the bottom corner. Despite Angus Gunn’s best efforts, the United captain was unable to prevent the outstanding attempt from going in.

Before Cristiano Ronaldo, who came off the bench before halftime, had his say, it appeared like both teams would have to settle for a draw. In the waning moments of the contest, the Red Devils icon broke the hearts of Scotland fans by tapping in a ball from close range to put the Selecao ahead.

During his entire stint on the field, Fernandes amassed 98 touches of the ball. He had an individual pass accuracy of 88% and connected with his compatriots on 56 of 64 attempts. He completed six crucial passes.

With fourteen crosses and four long balls, the United playmaker attempted to find an outlet. All four long balls he pinged were successful in reaching their targeted target.

Both of Fernandes’s chances were huge.

He not only scored the goal, but he also had another shot on goal that needed Gunn to step in quickly.

Two of the three dribbles attempted by Fernandes—who turned 29 today—were completed. He engaged in thirteen ground battles, winning eight of them.

The one aerial challenge that the participant was supposed to compete in was forfeited.
