In the middle of the park, Manuel Ugarte, the new Manchester United acquisition, put on a commanding display as Uruguay and Venezuela drew goalless at Estadio Monumental de Maturín.
On transfer deadline day, Ugarte’s official announcement as a United player was made. After losing favor under Luis Enrique, he transferred from Paris Saint-Germain, the Ligue 1 winners, to the club.
Although Ugarte hasn’t played for the Red Devils yet, he is anticipated to contribute when the team plays Southampton on Saturday.
Prior to that game, Ugarte excelled for Uruguay against Venezuela in their World Cup qualifying encounter, creating a strong case for Ten Hag to give him the starting nod at St Mary’s on Saturday.
During the whole ninety-minute match versus Venezuela, the 23-year-old made 57 touches with the ball.
Ugarte managed an individual pass completion rate of 83%, attempting 41 passes in total and finding his teammates 34 times.
He attempted to ping six long balls, and on three instances he was successful. He took one shot, hitting the mark, and then he asked that Rafael Romo, the goalie for Venezuela, make an urgent move.
The United No. 25 started three dribbles and finished them all.
Ugarte excels defensively, as evidenced by the fact that he won seven of the eleven ground duels he engaged in versus Venezuela.
The former PSG player only had to compete in one aerial duel, and he won.
