The planned loan move of Chelsea attacker David Datro Fofana to AEK Athens has fallen through.
The 21-year-old was supposed to sign a season-long loan agreement with the Greek team, with the possibility of a permanent move for a fee of £20 million.
When the clubs began exchanging documents, there were late complications with the contract, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. The Greek transfer window is about to end, and there is not much time left to save the deal since the teams are still at odds over a number of issues.
Despite signing with Chelsea in January 2023, Ivory Coast senior captain Fofana is not included in manager Enzo Maresca’s plans.
After joining Chelsea, Fofana made four appearances before going on loan to Union Berlin and Burnley.
In the second half of the previous season, he scored four goals in fifteen Premier League outings for Burnley.
Chelsea have been trying to get Fofana moved in order to cut down on the number of players the team had.The Blues are also looking to let go of Ben Chilwell, while Harvey Vale, Alex Matos, and Deivid Washington are also up for grabs or loans.
During a busy summer, Chelsea let go of forty players. Raheem Sterling joined Arsenal on loan, while Thiago Silva, Romelu Lukaku, Conor Gallagher, and Kepa Arrizabalaga were among those who left on a permanent basis.
