Rookie Wyatt Langford hit two doubles and a home run in the Texas Rangers’ 13-8 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Globe Life Field.
The Texas Rangers accomplished something on Tuesday that has been rare for them this season: they outslugged their opponent. The Rangers racked up 13 hits, including five extra-base hits, to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 13-8 in the series opener at Globe Life Field.
Wyatt Langford had an impressive game, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run, two walks, three runs, and two RBIs. Leody Taveras also contributed significantly, finishing 3 for 5 with a home run, two runs, and two RBIs. Texas amassed 13 hits but left 13 runners on base.
Toronto initially took a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and one in the second. However, Texas surged ahead with two runs in the third and five in the fourth.
Six of their 13 runs were unearned, as Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt pitched for the first 3 2/3 innings and faced two errors—one from himself in the second and another by third baseman Ernie Clement in the fourth.
The Blue Jays managed to tie the game with four runs in the fifth, but the Rangers answered back with two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, and three more in the eighth to secure the win.
This marked the fourth time Texas has scored 13 or more runs this season, the first occurrence since their game against the Tampa Bay Rays on July 7.
Wyatt Langford is the first Rangers hitter to reach base five or more times in a game since Adolis García did so on April 22, 2023. He is also the first Rangers rookie to achieve this feat since Scott Heineman on September 28, 2019.
Langford’s three extra-base hits are only the second occurrence by a Texas player this season, with Langford himself having the other one on June 30 in Baltimore when he hit for the cycle. Additionally, he becomes the third Rangers rookie ever to record multiple games with three or more extra-base hits in a season, joining Mike Lamb in 2000 and David Murphy in 2007.
