On Wednesday, Erik ten Hag got a double boost as two first team stars returned to Manchester United training.
After last night’s 7-0 Carabao Cup quarterfinal victory over Barnsley at Old Trafford, the Red Devils were beaming at their Carrington training site.
Despite missing a number of starters owing to injuries, United coach David Moyes named a strong starting eleven for the match against the League One club. The squad had a rocky start to the season. Including Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount in their most recent practice meant that the Dutchman might soon have two of his players back in action.
Mount got off to a strong start this season, starting both of his Premier League matches before suffering a hamstring injury that forced him to leave Brighton’s game in the middle of the first half. After joining United for £60 million from Chelsea, the 25-year-old only played in 20 games (including five Premier League starts) in his debut season. This was mostly attributable to the four months he missed playing because of a calf injury.
After limping out of the team’s preseason match against Arsenal in August, Hojlund has yet to play a competitive game this season.
The Danish national team member also hurt his hamstring.
Leny Yoro, who joined the team in the summer, hurt his foot in the game against the Gunners and will likely be out until November with the injury.
On Saturday night, Ten Hag’s squad will host Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on their return to Premier League action.
A number of players got much-needed confidence boosts after Tuesday night’s League Cup victory. Two goals each came from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, with Antony adding his name to the scoreboard after converting a penalty kick.
