The club’s young talent might be taken to the next level by adding some experienced players, according to the ex-Blues great, who advised they consider signing the two distinguished veterans.

 

At the Soccer Aid 2024 launch, Cole—who won six major titles with the west Londoners from 2003 to 2010—made the suggestion while chatting to talkSPORT.

When asked about Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino’s future at the club, the former England international wasted no time expressing his support for the Argentine, who is currently facing criticism, before adding some words of wisdom.

“I would be seeking to recruit some seasoned players who set the tone,” Cole stated in an interview with talkSPORT.

“I’m wondering if Luka Modric is no longer under contract. Is he interested in returning for another season of Premier League play?He went on to mention Modric’s history of motivating his younger teammates, stating, “He’s still doing bits at Real Madrid.” How much has he benefited [Federico Valverde], [Eduardo Camavinga], and [Aurelien Tchouameni]?

“He would’ve had such an influence on them as players.”

Toni Kroos is 34 years old,” the 42-year-old said when asked about the availability of the Croatian midfield partner. At his age, does he wish to challenge himself? Visiting this location and lending a hand to this rookie team.

“I am not familiar with their circumstances; I have simply mentioned their names.”Even though Cole’s wish seems unlikely given that both players are getting on in years, it’s quite unlikely that any of them is contemplating a spectacular move to England.

There have been whispers that Modric and Kroos’ futures may lay outside of Madrid since they are neither under contract nor have they agreed to new contracts with the Spanish giants at the end of the season.The 38-year-old Modric had a stellar spell with Tottenham from 2008 to 2012 in the Premier League, so he may be amenable to a return to the league, even though reports in Spain had him headed to the Saudi Pro League or the Major League Soccer.

The three-time league champion is still bullish on Chelsea’s future, regardless of whether the club implements Cole’s unlikely transfer request.

Adding to his earlier statement about Pochettino being a “top manager,” he later made the observation that the club is going through a transitional period, which they are aware of, in the interview. We have several really young players.

By saying, “There’s so much talent there, there’s so much potential,” Cole continued to applaud the group’s potential and the former Spurs’ boss for clearly outlining the squad’s ambitions.

Because he’s never stops drilling that story, I believe Poch has done an excellent job. You can’t judge this Chelsea squad by their previous performances.
