Anthony Martial, a former striker for Manchester United, has made his AEK Athens debut.
Following his summer release from United, the Frenchman signed with the Greek powerhouses, bringing an end to his stint as a free agent. The 28-year-old has stated that his goal is to win trophies and that he will try his hardest to support them in realizing their goals.
Martial’s eight-year Premier League tenure came to an end in the summer when his contract at Old Trafford ended. Injury plagued the former AS Monaco forward during his final months as a United player, limiting him to just 19 games overall (13 in the Premier League).
He signed a three-year contract to become the newest Greek Super League star, and the announcement was made official on Thursday. With three wins, one tie, and nine goals scored in their first four league games, Matias Almeyda’s team is unblemished and looking to reclaim the top spot.
Among his new teammates will be Erik Lamela, previously of Tottenham Hotspur, so there will be a familiar face in the group. Nordin, the brother of Sofyan Amrabat, a former United loanee, is also among the ranks.
Martial exclaimed, “I’m really happy.” “AEK is an opportunity for me and I will give my best to achieve things, win trophies and bring joy to the world of the team.”
When AEK visits Athens Kallithea on Sunday, a team that is only two points above the bottom of the standings, Martial might make his debut as soon as this Sunday. The largest Greek football match will be experienced by the former United player for the first time when Panathinaikos visits the OPAP Arena on Sunday, September 29.
After winning the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Europa League while he was in Manchester, Martial’s tenure in the Premier League came to an end in the summer. He wrote, “Manchester United will always be in my heart,” when he left.
“This club has made a lasting impression on my career and given me the amazing chance to perform in front of you. I’m departing to pursue new opportunities, but I’ll always be a Red Devil and I’ll be fiercely interested in the club’s performance.”
