Chelsea wants to sign a €60 million Barcelona player

In four Premier League games this 2024–25 season, Chelsea has improved under Enzo Maresca. A few weeks ago, they made a big impression against Wolves with a six-goal performance.

Even though Chelsea is improving, performances such as the draw with Crystal Palace demonstrate that more needs to be done at Stamford Bridge before the Blues can guarantee themselves a spot in the Champions League once more.

The attack, which was bolstered by the arrival of Jadon Sancho at the deadline, receives most of the attention when talking about Chelsea; but, the defense must also rise to the occasion and play at the caliber that its youthful players can.

To compete with Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill, Chelsea is thinking of adding another center defender to the mix. Fofana, in particular, hasn’t impressed as a starting center back despite his talent.

Diario Sport reports that Chelsea has reopened its interest in signing Barcelona’s outstanding center back Jules Kounde, who began the 2022–2023 season as a right back and helped the Blaugrana win La Liga.

In 2022, Kounde was being aggressively pursued by Chelsea from Sevilla; nevertheless, the best center defender in La Liga chose to remain in Spain, turning down Chelsea in favor of Camp Nou.

Despite strange transfer rumors linking him to a departure with a plethora of center backs, the Frenchman has only improved his reputation at Barcelona and stayed this past summer although Barca considered surrendering Kounde to raise a sizable sum in order to recruit a star striker.

If Barcelona decides to allow Kounde go in January, it is rumored that he might go for 60 million euros, however this is still unknown. Given that Kounde, a 25-year-old former Sevilla player, is superior than any of the Blues’ current center defenders, it seems logical that Chelsea would want him.
