After four rounds, Fiorentina has lost one and drawn three, registering a poor start in Serie A. “The Viola” faced up against Lazio at home in the fifth round. Few people think Fiorentina can defeat the team that is now ranked seventh in the standings.
The first half’s events demonstrated this, as Lazio consistently planned attacks to put pressure on the opposition. But David De Gea—a “city wall”—was faced by the visiting team. The Spanish goalie performed incredibly well.
The former MU standout made four excellent saves, one of which came in the 37th minute. Regretfully, in the 41st minute, De Gea was still required to enter the net to retrieve the ball. Mario Gila of Lazio scored with a strong header in the 41st minute. The Spanish goalkeeper was unable to make a save at the about two-meter distance.
In the second half, though, De Gea’s colleagues were rewarded for his efforts. In the 49th minute, Gudmundsson scored Fiorentina’s equalizer from the penalty spot. The home team performed much better after this goal. Lazio shot and handled the ball frequently, but they only had one successful shot that found the goal.
Naturally, De Gea performed admirably in goalkeeping, preventing a goal from being given up by the home team in the second half. In the closing minutes, Fiorentina’s aggressive endeavours eventually yielded results. Gudmundsson scored twice from the 11-meter line after the referee awarded the home team a penalty, giving “The Viola” its first victory of the year.
