At the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool on Monday, United revealed more information about the idea, which is centered on building a new stadium with 100,000 seats to replace the team’s present home, Old Trafford.

Oxford Economics, who were hired by the club to look into the project’s economic viability, described what they think will be its huge influence. According to the corporation, the project, led by billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe of Ineos, has the potential to create 92,000 new employment, over 17,000 new residences, and an additional 1.8 million tourists annually.

Following his acquisition of a minority investment in the team in February, which essentially placed him in command at Old Trafford, Ratcliffe has expressed his intention to build a “Wembley of the North” on the site of the team’s current home.Ratcliffe first suggested he may look for government funding to complete the project, but Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham seemed to have disregarded the idea.

The Liverpool City Region may profit from this plan as well. They intend to build a sizable, strategically important rail junction in St Helens, right off the M6. That plan will forward if the freight is moved behind the existing Old Trafford.
