Amidst fierce competition, Pedro Neto concedes that he is ‘not at my level’ following a lucrative move to Chelsea

Pedro Neto stated that “no one can sleep” due to Chelsea’s intense rivalry for spots and acknowledged he still needs to improve to the level that made him one of the most entertaining wingers in the Premier League while playing for Wolves.

After joining Wolves in a £54 million summer transfer, Neto scored his first goal in the Carabao Cup against Barrow, 5-0. It was also his first goal at any level since February due to a string of injury issues. The Portuguese was Enzo Maresca’s first big-name acquisition, but the attacking wealth already on hand was further enhanced with the addition of Jadon Sancho and Joao Felix later in the transfer window.

Due to Noni Madueke’s early-season form, Neto has had to wait for opportunities to play on his preferred right-flank. After making two consecutive starts on the left, the 24-year-old was substituted for Sancho in last weekend’s victory against West Ham.

As a member of a reserve frontline that cost over £200 million, Neto performed admirably against the League Two leaders on Tuesday night. The winger believes that due to the depth of skill, no player can afford to take a break.

“A large club is a new adaptation when you walk in,” he remarked. “I was probably going to play 90 percent of the games with Wolverhampton.

“The coach will rotate the players here, so I have to work even harder or I might not play. Knowing that you need to put in work improves your performance even more.

“No one can get any sleep with the quality we have here. Everyone won’t play in every game, as the coach has stated.

“We must put in a lot of effort, provide for ourselves, and keep doing so every weekend, every practice, and every game.” I’m hoping that this mindset will help us succeed.Injury plagued Neto’s final three seasons at Wolves to such a degree that he managed just three Premier League goals during entire period.

His most recent injury was a hamstring strain that prevented him from playing for over two months during the second part of the season. He was able to return on the last day of the season against Liverpool, just in time to be included in Portugal’s team for the European Championship.

The 24-year-old acknowledges that he is still not at his best physically or mentally.

“I’m not at my level right now, but I’m getting there,” he continued. “I’m confident that I’ll reach my best and that it will be enjoyable.

“I’m still working,” I’m still working on improving my self-assurance, football skills, and adaptability, and my goal is to reach [full fitness] as quickly as possible.
