If given the chance, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that he would be thrilled to take over as manager of Manchester United once more.’
The Norwegian was fired by the Red Devils in November 2021, and he hasn’t had a job for nearly three years.
Solskjaer handled 149 games as United’s manager, winning 78, drawing 33, and losing 38.
In addition to helping the team place second, sixth, and third in the standings, Solskjaer nearly led the team to victory in the Europa League in 2021 when they lost to Villarreal in the championship game on penalties.
His decline began in the 2021/22 season, as a string of unfavorable performances beginning in September—including a 5-0 loss to rivals Liverpool and a 4-1 loss against Watford—led to his dismissal in November 2021.After Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick took over as interim manager, Erik ten Hag was appointed as permanent successor to Solskjaer in the summer of 2022.
Despite winning the FA Cup and League Cup while he was at the Theatre of Dreams, Ten Hag has faced criticism before.
But when asked if he would contemplate returning to Old Trafford if the opportunity arose, in front of an estimated 3,000 people at the Oslo Business Forum, Solskjaer virtually bit the interviewer’s hand off.
Solskjaer stated, “If the family [United] asks, I would say yes every day of the week,” as reported by the Norwegian publication NRK.Although discussing employment that other people currently hold feels awkward, I would answer “yes, of course.”
Inquiries were also made about Solskjaer’s potential appointment as head coach of Norway’s national team.
After current manager Stale Solbakken said he will be leaving after the 2026 World Cup campaign, Solskjaer said he would be interested in talking about the position.
“I am a proud Norwegian, and naturally, if the question comes up, I will happily engage in discussions when Stale decides to give up,” he said.
“I am a proud Norwegian and proud of where I come from.”
“It just has to be the right job and I depend on working with the right people,” the former manager of Molde and Cardiff continued.
