‘Was a problem’ – Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino offers up excuse for Manchester United defeat

Mauricio Pochettino, the head coach of Chelsea, made a suggestion that his team’s fatigue was the cause of their 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.

After playing Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday night and failing to show up, United played considerably better and earned three points, which were secured by a brace from Scott McTominay. He scored one goal each before Cole Palmer’s equalizer to ensure the Reds got back to winning ways.

After making four changes to his starting lineup against the Magpies, manager Erik ten Hag saw the intended effect as his team stormed out of the traps and launched a barrage of attacks on Chelsea’s defense in the first few minutes. Within the first ten minutes, Bruno Fernandes had a chance to put United up, but Robert Sanchez saved his penalty.”I think so [it was a fair result], I think they deserved the victory,” he remarked in an interview with Amazon Prime Sport. They had a challenging beginning, but they exuded enormous vitality.

“We had to play comparable players for almost 60 minutes against Brighton, so it’s possible that the one day’s break had an impact on us. Perhaps that contributed to our poor start, but we managed to generate enough opportunities to tie the game at one and had a great second half. We gave up after one move, and things got challenging once more.”

The Chelsea manager said, “We didn’t start the match well, and maybe that can be expected because of the last couple of days,” in an interview with BBC Sport. Although we lacked Manchester United’s intensity, they had an extra day to rest.

“We lost momentum and the opportunity to alter the course of the match. That was an issue, and it does occur occasionally. That’s how football works.

“I give Manchester United all the credit. We were not as good as them, yet they still deserved to win. We should be concentrating on the upcoming game.”

The Argentine went on, criticizing his team’s wasted opportunities, saying, “We need to be more clinical in the locations like Old Trafford. It was harder when we gave up the second goal.

“We must decide more wisely. In the first half, I believe they forced us to play in our half, but after that, I believe we were stronger and played a little bit better. With all of the emotion out there, it’s challenging.
