Players can enter free agency the day after the World Series ends; this season, that could be as early as October 30 (the day after Game 4) and as late as November 3 (the day after Game 7). However, players cannot officially sign with a new team until five days after the World Series, giving clubs a designated period to negotiate, retain, and extend qualifying offers to their own free agents.
The trade window also reopens after the World Series, and teams can make qualifying offers to their own free agents until five days following the championship series.
The General Managers Meetings will take place from November 4 to 7.
This marks the unofficial start of the offseason, as baseball general managers convene in San Antonio this year to outline their plans for the winter.
However, significant news is not always expected; during last year’s meetings, Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young spoke about the team’s interest in acquiring starting pitchers and bullpen support, as well as discussing the outlook for Wyatt Langford and Jack Leiter. He also provided some typical vague responses regarding free agent Shohei Ohtani.
BBWAA awards season runs from November 11 to 21.
Finalists for the Baseball Writers Association of America’s awards—MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, and Manager of the Year—will be announced on November 11. Outfielder Wyatt Langford may have earned a spot on the American League Rookie of the Year ballots due to his impressive performance in the final month of the regular season. The winners of that award and its National League counterpart will be revealed on November 18, followed by the Manager of the Year on November 19, the Cy Young award on November 20, and the MVP award on November 21.
