Adolis García was a key figure in the Texas Rangers first-ever World Series. It’s been a long journey for the All-Star outfielder, who took home the ALCS MVP award after a huge showing against the Houston Astros.
Here are 10 things to know about García, or as he’s known by Ranger fans, El Bombi.
1. The basics

Garcia has become the heart and soul of this world champion Texas Rangers team, and he’s done so with the kind of swagger rarely seen in a Rangers uniform.
Bat flips. Big emotions. Clutch moments. All were on display during the Rangers’ 2023 postseason run.
3. Rangers arrival
García’s journey to the Rangers began with a trade nearly five years ago. In 2019, the Cardinals traded the outfielder to Texas in exchange for cash considerations. He spent the 2019 season at St. Louis’ Triple-A affiliate in St. Louis, recording 32 home runs with 96 RBI over 132 games.
4. Journey to MLB
After leading Cuban club Ciego de Avila to a Serie Nacional Championship in 2015, García went to Japan. He spent only the second half of the season in Yomiuri’s system. He said he struggled with the culture and foreign food. He ended up playing four games with Yomiuri before the end of the season.
5. Embraced the rivalry hate
One of the big storylines of the 2023 ALCS centered on the attention García received from Houston Astros fans. It all began with a three-run homer from García in the sixth inning of Game 5.
6. Shining in the postseason
Speaking of the ALCS, García put on a masterful batting display to keep Texas’ season alive. In seven games, García set an MLB record for most RBIs in a postseason series with 15 against Houston.
7. Famous fans
The Rangers star has earned a lot of respect this postseason, earning a few new fans throughout Texas’ run to the World Series.
8. Where did “El Bombi” nickname come from?
By now, most Rangers fans know García by his nickname of “El Bombi.”
9. In the Globe Life Field history books
García quickly made his mark at the Rangers’ new ballpark during the 2021 season. In a tight matchup with the Houston Astros, García gave the Rangers a 7-5 extra-inning victory over the Houston Astros.
10. Hitting dingers in the derby at Globe Life Field
“It was very exciting and felt very loved by the fans,” García said through interpreter Raul Cardenas outside the AL clubhouse after his second consecutive appearance in the Summer Classic’s Home Run Derby at the Ranger’s home of Globe Life Field.
