Jackson Merrill’s girlfriend Sammy posted a tribute to the past year

For San Diego Padres rookie Jackson Merrill, the 2024 season was one for the ages. Recently, Merrill’s girlfriend, Sammy, took to Instagram to offer her followers a recap of some of the memories she and her partner made.

A NL Rookie of the Year contender, Merrill logged his first career hit in South Korea in March against the Dodgers and did not look back. The 21-year-old finished the season with 24 home runs, 90 RBIs, and a slash line of .292/.326/.500 through 156 contests.

Sammie’s post on Instagram aimed to re-visit the best moments from the season. From big moments on the field with Jackson, to building her relationships with other partners and spouses on the team, Sammie showed that there was never a dull moment for her in 2024.

The heartfelt collage drew support from other wives and partners of San Diego Padres players. Among those commenting beneath Sammie’s post were Michael King’s wife Sheila, Robert Suarez’s wife Noemi, as well as Jarneli Martinus and Jianna Guerrero, who are girlfriends of Xander Bogaerts and Jeremiah Estrada, respectively.

A 21-year-old native of Maryland, Merrill was drafted by the Padres in the first round of the 2021 draft by the Padres. After putting up some very strong performances in the minor leagues over the past several years, Merrill is now showing his ability to compete at the MLB level.

Jackson Merrill also had the chance to make an impact for Padres in the postseason. Although his team met their match against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, Jackson Merrill hit .250/.333/.500 with a home run and three RBIs in the playoffs this year.

Jackson Merrill is still shaking off postseason disappointment

As the 2024 NLCS gets underway between the LA Dodgers and New York Mets, several fans in San Diego cannot help but envision their team there. As Merrill himself told MLB.com after the gutting loss to the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLDS:

“I just didn’t want to leave, I wasn’t really sitting there grieving or sulking or anything. I was just sitting there wanting to stay on the field. It ended pretty fast.”

As Sammy’s post showed, there were some pretty great moments in San Diego this year. For Jackson Merrill, here’s hoping that there will be several more years like it that are yet to come.
