After the international break, Enzo Maresca had most of his team back at Cobham and out on the training field as we got ready for our next game against Liverpool.
Many Chelsea players have been away from training for the past week due to their national team commitments, but they returned to Cobham for today’s session with their focus firmly fixed on the Premier League’s return this weekend and the Blues’ away trip to face leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
Among them were the long-distance runners, South American midfielders Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, the latter having just returned from a thrilling 6-0 victory in World Cup qualifying for Argentina over Bolivia in the wee hours of Wednesday morning UK time.
Though they had traveled less to the continent, our three Portuguese players were also back, so talented attackers Pedro Neto and Joao Felix were on the field at Cobham, along with the newest member of Chelsea’s international team, Renato Veiga, who made his senior debut for Portugal in last week’s 3-1 victory away in Poland.Forward Christopher Nkunku, who scored his first goal for his nation in France’s 4-1 victory over Israel, was undoubtedly in high spirits following his international service. He now has seven goals for Chelsea in all competitions this season.
Naturally, there were other players in action at Cobham on Thursday than the returning internationals. Captain Reece James, who had rejoined his teammates in training earlier this week, was still working on getting back to full fitness after suffering an injury during the preseason.
