Chelsea wants to equalize the score at Anfield.
Pedro Neto was the only player added by Enzo Maresca before his squad left for the second half. However, it was teammate Nicolas Jackson, who was brought on by Moises Caicedo’s inventiveness, that gave his side the equalizer.
Jackson didn’t falter in front of goal; his finish was brutal as well as unconventional, as he forced it in at the near post while falling. The Senegal player was taken aback when he was flagged offside. He was accurate. After additional examination by VAR, it was determined that Jackson’s deft bending of his run—something we’ve been dying to say—meant that Ibrahima Konate was onside despite his lengthy leg being stretched out a bit too far. The Blues are back in it after the goal was granted on review.
The aim is visible in the videos that are posted here:feeble and brittle Chelsea promptly blows a lead following Jackson’s lifeline.
Chelsea will now have another opportunity to take control of the game. They had a great start to the first half but were unable to maintain it. Liverpool’s counterattack caught them off guard, so they must improve this time.
UPDATE: Liverpool has scored through Curtis Jones, charging up the opposite end, literally as we speak. It’s unfortunate that we gave up a goal right away when we had a fantastic opportunity to sit deep, frustrate them, and try to steal the game. Despite all the advantages in attack, defense and defensive transition still lack a great deal of consistency.
