Christian Eriksen has raised questions about his future at Manchester United by acknowledging that he will not be able to decide whether to remain at Old Trafford after this season.
Ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League match against Fenerbahce, the Dane uncomfortably sidestepped a question on whether his contract, which expires at the end of this current season, may be extended while speaking with his manager here in Istanbul.
“The club will decide when my contract expires, not really me,” he stated.I’m having fun here. If the offer is made when summer arrives, I will very certainly consider it.
While on international duty, Eriksen recently stated that contract negotiations are not currently underway. However, club insiders told Mail Sport that they are at ease with the situation at this point in the season.
The 32-year-old, who has experienced a comeback this season, is one of just three healthy midfield players who have traveled to Turkey for the third round of the Europa League.
Eriksen provided two assists in the thrilling 3-3 loss to FC Porto after scoring in the 1-1 draw with FC Twente. The Dane was careful not to get ahead of himself when asked about his increased playing time in recent weeks after a surge in form.
“You play some games and some that you don’t,” he continued.
Even though I’ve been in and out over the past two seasons, I still love playing for Manchester United. You give it your all when you can, but the management decides who gets to play.
Ten Hag will need to rely on individuals like Eriksen for crucial attacking contributions because Bruno Fernandes, one of ten first team absences for this match, is suspended. This is especially important in the hot climate that English teams always face in Turkey.
