Mykhailo Mudryk has helped Chelsea double their lead over Panathinaikos in the Europa Conference League match in Athens.
Although the first half wasn’t particularly entertaining because Chelsea was having a lot of trouble with the hosts, Maresca’s heavily rotated team led 1-0 at the half.
Mudryk opened the scoring with a fantastic combination with Joao Felix before the Portugal international scored his second goal of the season.
Chelsea came out like they mean business and extended their advantage in three minutes after Maresca made no changes at halftime.
The ball found its way out to Pedro Neto, who lined up a cross to the back post where Mudryk was waiting to head it into the goal for his first of the season. It was a brilliant Chelsea play.
There have been a lot of doubts about the Ukrainian this season, but Mudryk has had a strong game and now has a goal and an assist to his name, which is fantastic for his confidence.
After being left out of the team entirely for last weekend’s loss to Liverpool, the winger has responded perfectly, and Maresca will undoubtedly have been impressed by his performance.
Felix and Mudryk team up once more.As I write this, Chelsea has scored their third goal and has a significant amount of luck, but the Blues won’t care because Mudryk and Felix are once again combining.
After receiving the ball, the Ukrainian plays it to Felix on the box’s edge. Felix attempts a shot that is on target but misses the goalkeeper due to a big deflection.
Felix is playing well, which he needed considering how little he has played and contributed this season. He has also given Maresca something to think about before Sunday’s match against Newcastle.
A fourth is added by Nkunku. After Panathinaikos was given a penalty for handballing in the box, Christopher Nkunku scored from the penalty spot to give Chelsea their fourth goal of the season. The Frenchman stepped up and sent the goalie the other way.
