In their loss to West Ham, Erik ten Hag lamented his wasteful Manchester United teammates for passing up numerous excellent opportunities.
This season, no side has failed to convert more significant opportunities than United, and Ten Hag was all too acquainted with the tale at the London Stadium.
His side was forced to pay for their lack of poise in the last third after failing to capitalize on their first half domination.Ten Hag remarked, “We played such good football, especially in the first half, and we created so many chances.”
I believe we should have scored on six or seven of those 100% chances. We must maintain our composure when we fail to score.Although there is room for development, aside from the fact that my team doesn’t score, I don’t have many complaints about them overall.
When Diogo Dalot had an empty net to aim at, he volleyed over the bar, missing the game’s greatest opportunity. Ten Hag, however, identified several other players who were also wasteful.
Ten Hag said, “I can also say Bruno [Fernandes], [Marcus] Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and Alejandro Garnacho, twice.” “When so many players were missing opportunities, it is unfair to single out one individual for criticism.
Right now, my luck is clearly not on my side.
“Last season wasn’t any different, but we managed to turn it around in the end, and we’re determined that today will be no different.” We must change this, and if we continue to play as we are currently, it will change.Although West Ham’s head coach Julen Lopetegui believed his club, who are now ahead of United on goal differential, deserved their three points for their effort in the second half, Ten Hag insisted that the better team did not win.
“I believe there were two distinct halves, that’s his opinion,” Lopetegui remarked.
I am aware that they were superior in the first half. We deserved to win since we played better in the second half. They had opportunities [in the first half], to be sure, but we made a lot of changes and improved as a result.
