Penn Badgley Opens Up About Working with Ex Blake Lively After Their Real-Life Breakup on His Podcast

The fact that Penn Badgley and Blake Lively, who co-starred on Gossip Girl, dated and eventually broke up in real life did not prevent them from working together. In his most recent podcast episode, the actor is presently reminiscing about that particular time period.

To those who live on the Upper East Side: Penn Badgley delights in bringing back fond memories of the Gossip Girl era.

An episode of the actor’s Podcrushed SiriusXM podcast featured the actor, who played the role of Dan Humphrey on the popular CW drama, reuniting with his on-screen sister Taylor Momsen; the episode was recently broadcast.

This marked the first time that the two actors had seen each other since the filming of the series finale in 2012. During that episode, Penn’s character married his longtime on-again/off-again girlfriend Serena van der Woodsen, who was portrayed by his real-life ex-girlfriend Blake Lively. Taylor’s character, Jenny Humphrey, had returned to New York City.

Penn doesn’t remember any stress on the set, despite the fact that filming a faux wedding scene with your ex-spouse could appear to be an awkward situation. As a matter of fact, Blake had already tied the wedding with Ryan Reynolds three months before to the airing of the Gossip Girl series finale, which was not visible to the public.

“From my memory, I’m pretty sure we were exes for nearly half of the run of the entire series,” Penn, who apparently began dating Blake in 2007, stated on the episode of Podcrushed that aired on September 6th. “It lasted for about six years, and I don’t think we were together for more than two years? Something along those lines.”

He went on to say, “We were always very professional and courteous.” We had to engage in a wide variety of crazy activities. Having a pseudonymous marriage by the time it’s over…Within my recollection, I do not even believe that there was even a single instance of strangeness. In fact, it was not even a thing. In addition, Penn, who is now married to Domino Kirke in real life, pointed out that the drama revolved around relationships of some kind from the beginning.

“Everyone in the cast had been in every conceivable configuration,” he remarked of the ensemble, which also comprised Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, and Leighton Meester. “The conclusion, in many respects, gave me the impression that, after such a considerable amount of time had passed, it was approaching the status of an afterthought. The fact that I am Gossip Girl was brought to light, and Dan and Serena announced their wedding.

Penn also spoke out about his former romance with Blake earlier this year, sharing how the relationship helped to ground him amid Gossip Girl fame.

As the 36-year-old told Variety in February, while the six-season run of the show was “fun and fast-paced” it also had “dark undercurrent” that affected him in his late 20s.

“To be honest, I never struggled with substance,” the You actor shared. “Blake didn’t drink, and I think our relationship in some ways saved me from forcing myself to go down that road.”To hear Penn share more about his behind the scenes experience on Gossip Girl, listen to his chat with Taylor on Podcrushed.
