Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting CP, has spoken out on rumors that he is connected to the Manchester United position.
Despite Man United’s interest, Amorim led Sporting to the next round of the Portuguese Cup on Tuesday.
Inside the stadium, supporters expressed their emotions as his current team defeated Nacional 3-1 to secure their place in the competition’s next round. There was no lavish farewell to supporters after the final whistle, as Amorim made his way directly down the tunnel.
He addressed the rumors that he was linked to the Man United position in an interview with broadcasters in the mixed zone following the outcome.
The 39-year-old stated that he is uncertain if tonight’s game was a farewell to Sporting and that nothing has been resolved.
“No decision has been made yet… He told reporters, “I’m not sure if it’s the farewell game or not.”
“I have nothing else to say because everything I say will simply make the noise we are making while we analyze the game worse. Nothing tangible is present.”I don’t want to fuel this issue,” Amorim continued. Aside than that, we don’t yet know the specifics; we’ll see. The club has made a statement to the CMVM. I will continue to accept responsibility for my choices, but it will be simpler if I am certain of them.”
“Manchester United is interested,” he stated during his press conference following the game. However, I have an option. We won’t be making any noise until everything has been decided. I have nothing to contribute. As I have always done, I will do anything I want to do.
“I’m not going to talk about my contract, it’s a matter between me and Sporting,” he added when discussing his release clause. Both the employer and the employee include every clause included in a contract. I can say that the statement has all the information that is required.
Before this weekend’s Premier League matchup against Chelsea, Man United hopes to finalize an agreement to hire Amorim.
However, his remarks seem to imply that his position won’t be finalized in time, which means he might be in the bench for Sporting’s upcoming match against Estrela Amadora on Friday.
