Argentine journalist Emiliano Raggi has criticized Alejandro Garnacho, a player for Manchester United and Argentina, for his actions during the Ballon d’Or ceremony. The cunning winger was not able to communicate in Spanish.
Lamine Yamal received the Kopa award on Monday night, which is presented to the best young footballers, and Garnacho was one of the nominees. Garnacho finished sixth in the award, behind Joao Neves of Paris Saint-Germain.
Raggi recalls that he was told Garnacho was on his way and that he passes by twice when he is asked, “Ale, could we have a minute for Argentina?” on the red carpet, where players frequently conduct interviews. Garnacho went to one of the red carpet attendants and said, “I only do interviews in English,” which he said in Spanish, avoiding eye contact with Raggi.
After that, the 20-year-old spoke in English during an interview with a Spanish TV station. Raggi attempted to speak Spanish again but was denied. The journalist continues by saying that he did not give Garnacho an explanation or even the decency to pay him any attention since he thought his actions were ridiculous, considering that he is a member of the Argentina national team and speaks Spanish as his native language.
Garnacho has already faced criticism in Spain after he got into a fight with Pedri during a Europa League match between Barcelona and United. Garnacho chose to represent his parent country in Argentina despite La Roja’s attempts to enlist him for their national cause.
