The head of Christian Pulisic’s boyhood team, the Philadelphia Classics, tells Business Insider that the 20-year-old can have the same influence on American soccer that Tiger Woods once did on golf.
Before being noticed by the massive Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund in 2015 at the age of 15, Pulisic played four seasons with the PA Classics at various age groups, having joined the team at the age of 10.

Being the chairman of the PA Classics and a personal friend of the Pulisic family, Doug Harris has witnessed firsthand the evolution of Pulisic’s career and feels it resembles that of Tiger Woods, one of the best athletes in American history.
“You may or may not be aware of Tiger Woods’ impact on golf. We’re hoping Pulisic can accomplish that with American youth soccer players,” Harris stated to Business Insider.

Harris also thinks Pulisic, who became famous very quickly himself, can influence American soccer’s future players in the same way.

Harris went on, “The younger guys have a whole new level of technical ability, work rate, everything to strive to. Furthermore, I firmly think that many young players in the US these days are putting a lot of effort into their games as a result of watching what Christian is doing.”

The USMNT has only lost three of its 12 games this year, which is a remarkable start given their poor CONCACAF qualifying results that saw them finish behind both Honduras and Panama in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. One of those came in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final, where Jonathan dos Santos of the LA Galaxy scored a late goal to give the squad a 1-0 loss to Mexico.
Thanks to their recent success, Gregg Berhalter’s USMNT team moved up eight spots in the FIFA global rankings.
Harris thinks the team’s recent run of success is mostly due to Pulisic’s influence.

The next time Pulisic plays for Chelsea is on Sunday at Stamford Bridge against Leicester City. A lot of young boys and girls in the US will probably be spectating the player’s every move.
Christian has that potential, in my opinion, given what Tiger accomplished in the golf community. I’m just stating all the indicators, not that it’s there yet. Similar to how Tiger Woods trended, this is trending.
