Eden Hazard’s reply demonstrated how much he still loves Chelsea after his barber played a practical joke on him by wearing a Tottenham shirt.
The 33-year-old, who spent seven seasons at Stamford Bridge after joining Chelsea in the summer of 2012, was getting his hair done by Ahmed Alsanawi, the proprietor of A Star Barbers, who also cuts the hair of many famous football players, such as Phil Foden, Reece James, and Jack Grealish.
Hazard made 352 games during his tenure at Chelsea, contributing 110 goals and 92 assists. He left in 2019 to finalize his ideal transfer to Real Madrid, but in October 2023, four years later, he announced his retirement from professional football.
The Belgian scored one of Chelsea’s most well-known goals against Tottenham Hotspur in May 2016 when he curled a stunning shot into the top corner to complete the Blues’ comeback from a 2-0 deficit and square the score. Leicester City won the Premier League, ending Spurs’ hopes of winning the championship.
A Spurs shirt was positioned on top of the cover as part of a practical joke on Hazard, who recently had his hair done by Alsanawi. His response was excellent and characteristic of a former Chelsea player with strong ties to west London.
“Hey, bro! “What are you doing, man?!” Hazard replied, grinning while he sat in the chair. While at Chelsea, Hazard won the Premier League twice, the Europa League, the League Cup, and the FA Cup. He was also named the 2015 PFA Men’s Players’ Player of the Year.
Hazard has no regrets about the “calm choice” he finally made, which was to retire, even though his time at Real Madrid didn’t end the way he had intended.
Hazard revealed in an interview with L’Avenir that he always intended to quit playing football when he lost interest in it.
“I had always stated that as soon as I stopped having fun on the field, I would quit. I had no desire to go play somewhere just to get money. That was the best course of action. I stopped playing and I stopped enjoying training. The choice was straightforward.
“I won’t say it was difficult, but it wasn’t easy,” he continued. It was helpful to me because I had previously given it some thought. I was able to make a composed decision since I had so many activities outside of football.”
