As the new manager of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim has spoken out about the mixed feelings he feels about leaving Sporting Lisbon.
On November 11, the 39-year-old will take over as manager at Old Trafford. United are currently in 13th place in the league table after their worst Premier League start ever.
Although Amorim had hoped to stay with Sporting until the season ended, United were adamant that he would assume the position without delay.Sporting will be coached by the Portuguese national team’s head coach for their last Champions League match at the Jose Alvalade Stadium on Tuesday night, against United’s fierce rivals Man City.
In his pre-match speech, Amorim recounted the chaotic events of the past seven days.”It’s been very tough,” he told TNT Sports. This was both the happiest and worst week of my life. There is no other way for me to describe it.It has been quite difficult, but I must say that I am leaving a very good place. However, I am leaving to join one of the world’s top clubs, so I must persevere.
The ex-Benicia player claimed he is prepared to face “the best coaches in the world” when asked how managing in the Premier League will compare to his coaching experiences in Portugal.
Not only Pep [Guardiola], but I think it’s incredibly hard, he went on to say.
It will be a whole different ballgame in England with all the top teams and coaches. In Portugal, there are just three major teams, so there are a lot of weeks with challenging games that you can still manage to win.
