The Texas Rangers have opted not to exercise their team option on left-handed pitcher Andrew Chafin, who was acquired at the trade deadline

The Texas Rangers are beginning to reshape their bullpen for the 2025 season. A key move in that process came on Monday when the team decided to decline its $6.5 million club option on left-handed pitcher Andrew Chafin, which included a $500,000 buyout.

Chafin was acquired by Texas at the trade deadline from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for right-handed pitchers Joseph Montalvo and Chase Lee.

While Chafin posted a solid 3.16 ERA and averaged 12.2 strikeouts per nine innings in 41 appearances with Detroit, his performance notably declined during his 21 relief outings for the Rangers, where he registered a 4.19 ERA and 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

With the decision to decline his option, Chafin now joins a list of free agent relievers for the Rangers, which includes Jose Leclerc, David Robertson (who opted out of his mutual option), Jose Ureña, and Kirby Yates.
