After allegedly accusing Manchester United supporters of losing faith in him, Alejandro Garnacho declined to celebrate his goal.
In front of the Stretford End at Old Trafford, Garnacho scored the game-winning goal in the 3-0 victory over Leicester City, although he seemed glum despite scoring his sixth goal of the season.
At the final whistle, United captain Bruno Fernandes addressed the 20-year-old Argentina winger, telling him that regardless of his performance, supporters will always criticize him. It happened a few days after he was captured on tape fighting with a supporter prior to PAOK’s Europa League victory.
Fernandes stated, “Garnacho scored a huge goal but didn’t celebrate like he should because he thinks he lost faith from some fans.” People will always complain, but there are plenty of people that like you and appreciate what you do, I told him.
It was something unique, so I advised him to celebrate. We have difference-makers, and he is a unique player. We win games because of them. They won’t score every game, even though it is what we desire. Before their midweek victory in Europe, Garnacho was signing autographs outside Old Trafford when he was approached by a fan. “You’ve got to pass better today, yeah, please,” the supporter said. You want to improve your first touch, score a goal, and pass more effectively?
Despite the team’s poor performance at the beginning of the season, Garnacho was one of Erik ten Hag’s better players. After starting seven straight games, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy decided to use him off the bench against Leicester in order to control his fatigue.
“You are playing so many games, I want you fresh off the bench to make an impact,” Van Nistelrooy remarked of Alejandro Garnacho before the game. “I’m glad it worked out,” he said.
Victor Kristiansen, the full-back for Leicester, was hit by Fernandes’ finish, which went down as an own goal. Fernandes also had a major hand in the second goal.
The United captain said, “The fantasy managers won’t be happy with you guys taking that goal off me.”
