Exclusive assertions The ยฃ50 million+ star that Arsenal “looked at” just destroyed their weekend
Pedro Neto’s first truly memorable big game performance of his Chelsea career against Arsenal Sunday evening has had us giddy all morning. However, as CaughtOffside noted in their exclusive with Charles Watts today, things might have turned out quite differently.
Watts stated in his column for the website, “Of all the signings Chelsea has made over the past couple of years, Pedro Neto was the one that I looked at and felt that Arsenal should have had a go for.”
They had previously considered making a move, but it never happened. I believe that Wolves were better equipped to fend off any assaults at the time they gave him significant consideration. However, he wasn’t particularly noticeable last summer. I have no idea why that was the case. He was obviously available, yet Chelsea made a move while Arsenal did not.
To me, he always seemed like the kind of player who would be ideal for Arsenal. There were obviously injury concerns. Perhaps some clubs were turned off by his lack of availability while he was at Wolves. However, he was always excellent when healthy, and considering his qualities, he truly felt like he was created for this Arsenal team. For Chelsea, signing Neto was a double win.A strong team has been assembled by Arsenal’s transfers in recent years, and if you’re looking for players who are comparable, you’re usually on the right track. It appears that we actually outstripped them in this instance. In addition to having a very talented, adaptable kid at the ideal age to start playing right away, we have also kept him from one of our competitors.
Just consider how much the Gunners could have done with Neto’s energy and speed in their attack. Instead, he scored against them and put in a ton of effort to stop their rather mediocre assault.
