Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill of Chelsea are among the eight players who have withdrawn from the 26 that Lee Carsley called up for his final two games as interim England manager (before Thomas Tuchel takes over). ESPN calls it a “injury exodus”! The only Chelsea player still playing for the team is Noni Madueke.
Palmer recovered from the knee injury he sustained against Manchester United the previous week, but he performed far worse than usual in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal over the weekend. Loading issues are most likely another factor in Colwill’s withdrawal. He is the only non-goalkeeper in the team to have played every minute of the Premier League thus far this season.
Six other players, including Phil Foden, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Aaron Ramsdale, have all decided to withdraw from England’s Nations League pseudo-friendlies over the next two weeks.
ADJarrod Bowen, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jarred Morgan Rogers, Jarryd James Trafford, and Tino Livramento, a former Chelsea prospect, have been called up to replace them. Livramento joins the team along with fellow Cobhamites Dominic Solanke, Marc Guéhi, and Conor Gallagher, as well as fellow prospective debutant Lewis Hall. England, you’re welcome!
