Scott Boras stood at the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort & Spa on Wednesday morning, atop his portable platform in front of a pristine Boras Corp. backdrop, either preparing material for a Showtime comedy special or promoting his hitters on the free agent market.
Representing players like Alex Bregman, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso, Boras used his usual flair to highlight the value of his clients.
For Bregman, he mentioned the need for teams to improve with an “AB+ blood transfusion.” For Soto, he joked that every general manager aiming to build a championship team needs a “magic Juan.” And for Alonso, he predicted a strong market for the Polar Bear. While it might sound like a comedy routine, the message was clear.
On the humor side, Nate Bargatze need not worry about competition. The media didn’t mind Boras’ theatrical delivery; after all, copy is copy, and at least his performance didn’t require a two-drink minimum.
However, when it came to free agency, Boras’ antics served as a reminder of the Rangers’ current standing this offseason. While they’ve done business with Boras in the past, it seems they’re not the target audience for his latest pitch. Whether it’s due to financial constraints or reluctance to pay high prices, it’s clear that the Rangers may not be prepared to meet Boras’ demands. Some blame inflation, which seems to be the prevailing excuse in today’s market.
