According to reports, the Red Devils have been watching the German international as he struggles to get playing time at Bayern. Horst Heldt, the sports director for Union Berlin, says “any club can imagine having Goretzka” and wants to bring the 29-year-old to Die Eisernen.
“It is well known that Goretzka’s current circumstances are difficult,” he told Bild. It goes without saying that he will consider his future. Leon Goretzka is a dream come true for any club. Additionally, we have a very good idea of it.
Goretzka is ‘expected’ to leave Bayern during the January transfer window, according to the German newspaper Berliner Kurier, but a move to Union Berlin is doubtful. This is because, at an estimated €14 million (£11.6 million) a year, he will be too costly for the Berlin team. Goretzka is allegedly open to going on loan, though, in order to increase his playing time in the second half of the season. Despite being a Bayern mainstay for years, the 6′ 2″ midfielder has only started one game this season under new manager Vincent Kompany. It appears that this season will be his final one with the German powerhouses.
Goretzka, whose deal with Bayern expires in 2026, will be hoping for more playing time at the Bundesliga leaders in the upcoming weeks and months.
