On a successful night for the Chelsea player and England against Greece in Athens, Noni Madueke demonstrated his ability.
Ollie Watkins, Curtis Jones, and an own goal by the home team gave England a 3-0 victory over Greece on Thursday night.
After Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer left the England camp at the start of the week, Madueke was the only Chelsea player to play.
At the Olympic Stadium in Athens, the 22-year-old was given a start by interim Lee Carsley, and he provided an assist for Watkins’ first goal to support the decision.
In order to drive to the byline and cut it back for the Aston Villa forward to slot in from close range, Madueke teamed up with Jude Bellingham on the flank. After 66 minutes, the Chelsea attacker was substituted, although he left the field as one of England’s best players.
Madueke won four of his six duels with the opposition and created three great chances, more than any other player on the field.
Before returning to Chelsea to get ready for their Premier League matchup against Leicester City, he will be eager to support his performance against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday at Wembley.
After observing Madueke’s performance, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca will have given him a favorable evaluation, giving the 44-year-old hope that the striker is beginning to regain his form and momentum as the season draws to a close.
Madueke was sent off after 68 minutes of play against Arsenal last weekend, and it was clear from his response that he was unhappy with the call. Maresca supported his player and thinks it’s a good indicator that he is hungry to play all the time.
“The problem is when you change a player, they are never happy,” Maresca stated. “He was delighted after we changed him after he scored a hat-trick in the Wolves game, which is perhaps the only way to be happy. It concerns all of the players, not just Noni.
They want to stay until the very end, so it’s a positive thing. However, at the time, we had different ideas. Pedro could have been a little more aggressive with Timber and Misha. Therefore, it was only a tactical choice.
