According to reports, Manchester United want to pursue Sporting Lisbon player Geovany Quenda.
Following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, Ruben Amorim was named United’s next manager after four and a half dazzling years at Sporting.
After the Dutchman led the team to its worst-ever start to a Premier League season, the 39-year-old is tasked with turning around the team’s poor start to the season.
And he thinks Quenda, 17, can assist him in doing so, A Bola said.
According to the report, before Amorim arrived, United had already made contact with the Portuguese team on the player.
A summer transfer is seen to be the most likely timeframe, and they want to close a deal as quickly as possible. Quenda’s release clause increased from £38 million to £84 million as a result of his latest contract extension through 2027.
Victor Gyokeres, a teammate, has attracted interest from many Premier League clubs.
Quenda became the youngest player to score for Sporting after only making his debut in the first squad this season.
‘I won’t be signing [Sporting players] in January, that’s what I said,’ Amorim declared after moving from Sporting to United earlier this month, denying he would sign his former teammates in the upcoming transfer window.
‘I don’t know about the summer,’ he continued. The most important thing is to wait till summer [laughs]. We’ll see after that; Sporting’s players are excellent. I’m not sure. We shall see.
