As a keen-eyed supporter observes which players the new manager has selected in his preferred 3-4-3 formation, Ruben Amorim supervises the first Man United training session

On Monday, Ruben Amorim oversaw his first practice as manager of Manchester United.

On November 1, Amorim was officially announced as Erik ten Hag’s successor at Old Trafford. However, he did not begin his new position until November 11 because he was serving a notice period at his previous club, Sporting Lisbon.

This week, the 39-year-old, who is considered to be among the best coaches in Europe, finally started working at United’s Carrington training facility.Since several of his best players were on international service, Amorim did not have a full first-team roster to work with.

Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Leny Yoro, among others, participated in Monday’s practice, though.

Amorim set up a practice match and put his guys through a series of drills.Amorim seemed to pick his best team to play against a youthful opposition during the practice.

In the bulk of his 231 games as Sporting’s manager, Amorim employed a 3-4-3 formation, and it seems that he is eager to continue using that configuration.

When United posted footage from Monday’s training session on social media, keen-eyed supporters were captivated by what they saw.

One fan, who goes by the handle ‘@utdrobbo’ on X (previously Twitter), was sure that he had figured out Amorim’s likely ‘Team A’ lineup on Monday.

He concluded that Amorim had selected Shaw, Jonny Evans, and Yoro as his back three after examining a number of video.

Amad Diallo, Rashford, and Mason Mount were the three most attacking players, while Antony, Casemiro, Mainoo, and Tyrell Malacia appeared to be the midfield four.

Numerous replies praised the concept of Rashford playing centrally as a No. 9, but many United supporters reacted to @utdrobbo by ordering him to do his study.

In Amorim’s first game as manager, it is extremely improbable that all ten of the outfield players that practiced together will start against Ipswich on Sunday. At Portman Road, Amorim will most likely arrange his players in a 3-4-3 formation.

With only 15 points from their first 11 games this season, United will begin the following weekend in 13th place in the Premier League standings.

Four days after defeating Ipswich, United will host Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa League.

After drawing with Twente, Porto, and Fenerbahce before defeating PAOK Salonika, United has only managed six of a potential twelve points in Europe thus far this season.Last Friday, Amorim spoke to MUTV in his first interview as United’s manager. “First of all, I think I felt a connection with the club,” he stated when asked why he accepted United’s offer. And everyone is familiar with Manchester United when I say “with the club.”

I want to work with individuals I like and connect with, therefore it’s really important to me that I feel a connection with the people in the club.

“The second point is this club’s history,” he continued. Also, I believe that everyone is driven for success, and because you may be a part of something unique rather than just another, I feel that this is the location where I want to be. And that’s something I truly enjoy.

Amorim also praised United’s supporters. “I think it is a special club when you see the games here, the interaction with the managers, and the players, even in difficult moments,” he remarked. There are numerous explanations for this. However, the club has a long and illustrious history, which is the primary reason.
