According to reports, Manchester United is willing to make an offer to Joshua Zirkzee in exchange for a top transfer target next summer.
Erik ten Hag, the manager at the time, paid £36.5 million to sign Zirkzee from Bologna, and the Dutchman came at Old Trafford in July.
After entering as a second-half substitute, the 23-year-old scored the game-winning goal in United’s Premier League opener against Fulham, capping off an incredible start to his career with the team.He hasn’t started a league game since the crushing 3-0 loss to Tottenham in September, though, and he hasn’t been able to score since.
Ruben Amorim’s arrival has only raised more concerns about his future with the team, as rumors have it that the new manager is not entirely sold on the forward.
Zirkzee may be offered by United as part of a summer transfer attempt to recruit Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, according to a report from the Italian publication Il Mattino.
According to reports, United thinks they could get Osimhen by paying Zirkzee and £25 million, but his release clause at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for teams outside of Serie A is £63 million.Osimhen has long been considered one of the top attackers in the history of football, and in 2023, his 26 league goals helped Napoli win their first Scudetto in over thirty years.
Osimhen signed a huge new contract with the squad last year, but his relationship with the Naples club eventually soured, and Antonio Conte made him practice away from the first team.
In the summer, he was linked to both Saudi Arabia and the Premier League, but he ended up joining Galatasaray on loan for the season.
Since then, the Nigerian international has had a stellar debut in the Turkish top division, scoring six goals and dishing out two assists in just five appearances.
Additionally, Osimhen scored two goals when Okan Buruk’s team lost to Spurs 3-2 in the Europa League earlier this month.
Given the team’s dismal start to the season, United’s quest for additional firepower is hardly surprising.
Only relegation-threatened Everton, Crystal Palace, and Southampton have scored fewer goals in the league this season than the Red Devils, who have only managed 12 goals.
