Enzo Maresca is informed by Joao Felix of his ideal position for Chelsea.Enzo Maresca is informed by Joao Felix of his ideal position for Chelsea

Enzo Maresca has been informed by Joao Felix that he will “perform best” for Chelsea in a center attacking role.

After spending five months on loan at Stamford Bridge last year, Felix returned to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in a permanent deal for £45 million in the summer.

However, because of the fierce competition for spots in Maresca’s attack, the 25-year-old has struggled to establish a consistent role at Chelsea this season.

Felix has only made two Premier League appearances as a substitute so far this season, but he has started both Carabao Cup games and scored four goals in three Conference League games.Maresca has emphasized the need for balance in Chelsea’s attack, and Felix stated that he would like a center position in the squad after scoring in Monday night’s 1-1 draw between Portugal and Croatia in the Nations League.

“I haven’t played in the central area of the pitch in the last four years, but I think that’s where I can perform best,” Felix told Sport TV.”I believe that’s where I can help the team the most and contribute the most to the game, whether that’s as a false nine, a No. 10, or a second striker, and I think you could see that in the first half.”Felix said, “I don’t know, I can’t predict the future,” in response to the question of whether this will be a “season of affirmation” at Chelsea.

“I strive for that and always try to do my best.” I can be my best since I’m a professional. And if it happens this season, next season, in two, three, or ten years… I’m not sure. However, it will eventually occur.

“I feel a shame for Joao and I would like to give him more minutes in the Premier League but we need defensive balance and we cannot play with Joao, Cole [Palmer], and Christo [Nkunku],” Maresca remarked in reference to Felix’s lack of Premier League playing time prior to the international break.

“I want to put them all on the field, but you have to defend and strike the correct balance.” Joao will find his place in the Premier League if he continues to play effectively, in my opinion.
