According to Gary Neville, one of the Premier League’s biggest surprises thus far this season is Ryan Gravenberch, a midfielder for Liverpool.
Despite entering the season after two disappointing campaigns, the highly regarded midfield player has made an impression.
Gravenberch only made 12 Premier League appearances for Liverpool following his £35 million move last year, and he had a dismal season at Bayern Munich in 2022–2023 after leaving Ajax.Neville stated on Stick to Football, which is presented by Sky Bet, “Greeneberch is my choice based on his performance and position.”
“I firmly believe that Gravenberch’s performance has been a huge surprise.”
Nobody, in my opinion, anticipated him to be as successful as he has been in that midfield position. Curtis Jones has also performed admirably.
After talking with Lionesses icon Jill Scott, Arsenal great Ian Wright, and Man United greats Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, Gravenberch would end up as the third biggest surprise.
They edged over Gravenberch thanks to the goal-scoring prowess of Chris Wood of Nottingham Forest and Liam Delap of Ipswich.
“Ipswich’s Liam Delap, with six goals, and Chris Wood, with eight goals, must be in the top three,” Neville continued.
“Danny Welbeck is excellent; his current form is superior to that of any other [Manchester] United front player this season, so I’m not surprised by him.” Morgan Rogers at [Aston] Villa has the potential to be excellent.I would rank Wood first, Delap second, and Gravenberch third.
Wright had mentioned Carlos Baleba of Brighton and Antoine Semenyo of Bournemouth as additional possible choices.
Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa of Brentford were also recommended by the former Arsenal forward.
Wright commended the pair for their efforts, arguing that the Bees have not been significantly impacted by the sale of Ivan Toney.
