Following yet another injury setback, Reece James took to Instagram to share a message with his supporters.
James will miss Saturday’s match against Leicester because of a hamstring issue, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca disclosed during his news conference on Thursday.
Since being elected Chelsea captain 15 months ago, James has only played 654 minutes of football and is now expected to miss more time due to injury. On Thursday night, however, he sent a bold message to his social media followers, thanking them for their support and promising to bounce back from his injury setback.
“This message is to the people who understand & have respect for what I’m going through,” the England full back posted on Instagram. Your encouragement and good comments mean more to me than you can ever know. Thank you so much.
And just to give you an update, I’m doing fine, both better and worse. A new challenge has been accepted. I’ll win out in the finish. In spite of everything.Although Maresca seems to suggest that James’ absence this weekend is a precaution and that he could be able to return to the field soon, the extent of his ailment is yet unknown.
According to Maresca, “He felt something.”He must definitely be out this weekend; after that, we’ll see. We don’t yet know how long. We shall see.
“I understand that it’s not easy, but if he gets hurt all the time, it gets harder for him, and it gets worse for me.” He must come to terms with that. He must make every effort to stay away from it.
However, despite your best efforts to avoid them, things do happen occasionally. He is not accessible this weekend. Regretfully, he had a slight sensation. It’s a hamstring. It’s a muscular issue. For this weekend, we don’t want to take any chances.Due to his inability to show his fitness, James has missed the last two big tournaments with England and has had a turbulent time with injuries in recent years.
Maresca acknowledged last month that James is only able to play one game per week because of his continuous physical issues, and he was also sidelined at the beginning of this season.
James went on to start three consecutive league games against Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle before being benched for Chelsea’s final game before the international break because Maresca preferred Marc Cucurella and Malo Gusto as full backs in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
Gusto and Cucurella are expected to start again when Chelsea visits Leicester, Maresca’s old team, on Saturday for midday kickoff.
