The Texas Rangers have included two pitching prospects and a revived infielder on their 40-man roster

The Rangers took a conservative approach ahead of Tuesday’s deadline to protect players on the 40-man roster before next month’s Rule 5 draft.

Instead of making multiple roster moves, they used their three available spots to add pitchers Emiliano Teodo and Winston Santos, along with infielder Max Acosta.

Additionally, they returned right-hander Carson Coleman, a Rule 5 selection from last year, to the New York Yankees. Coleman missed the entire season due to elbow surgery and is not expected to pitch before late 2025. Following these moves, the Rangers now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.

Santos, 22, and Teodo, 23, both signed for modest $10,000 bonuses from the Dominican Republic in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Both pitchers consistently hit the upper 90 mph range with their fastballs and are expected to compete for spots on the 2025 pitching staff, though it’s unlikely they’ll start the season with the team.

Both players also participated in the All-Star Futures Game in Arlington this past July.

Acosta, 22, was once considered one of the organization’s top 10 prospects before a pair of subpar seasons, but he bounced back at Double-A Frisco this season and followed it up with an impressive run in the Arizona Fall League. He compiled a .934 OPS in Arizona.

The club once again decided to leave a couple of potentially intriguing pitchers off the 40, though: Right-handers Josh Stephan of Grand Prairie and Dane Acker. Both spent the 2024 season at Double-A Frisco. Stephan missed a significant portion of the year with elbow issues, but returned to put together a strong performance in the Arizona Fall League. Acker, who had missed most of the previous two seasons with injuries, pitched 97.1 innings at Frisco and had a strong finish as a multi-inning reliever.
