GREAT NEWS: Nathan Eovaldi and the Rangers have finalized a three-year, $75M agreement, securing the 2023 World Series hero’s future in Texas

It seems that the Texas Rangers’ financial situation, particularly regarding TV deals, may not be as uncertain as previously thought throughout the offseason.

In fact, the Rangers appeared to catch some of SMU’s playoff energy and decided to make a bold move on Tuesday, agreeing to a three-year, $75 million deal with their top free-agent target, Nathan Eovaldi. Two sources familiar with the negotiations confirmed the agreement to The Dallas Morning News.

The terms, initially reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, are still pending a physical exam, which is especially significant considering Eovaldi’s history of injuries.

However, the Rangers have closely monitored his medical history over the past two years, both during his role in leading the team to a World Series title and as a key figure in their rotation.

The deal was finalized just hours after Max Fried, another Rangers target, chose to sign with the New York Yankees for eight years and $218 million.

Although it seemed the Rangers would have to pick between Fried or Eovaldi for their rotation, sources say the team had been working on scenarios where they could have landed both pitchers.

This marks a significant shift for a team that initially seemed prepared to play a more passive role in the free-agent market while awaiting final details on the unresolved Regional Sports Network deal.
